How-To: Install or Re-install Microsoft’s Java Virtual Machine (MSJVM)

Test whether Java is working on your machine here.

Check whether or not you have the MSJVM installed and which version here.

Notes: For the MS Java VM, you may need to install v.3809 prior to upgrading to v. 3810 if you didn't previously have MS Java v. 3805 or 3809 installed (e.g., OEM Windows XP SP 1a). To be safe, we recommend following all three steps for your Operating System (OS). On Windows XP, we also recommend setting a new System Restore Point (or backing up your system for other OS's) before proceeding .

1Initial Installation:

OS Download/install steps
Windows 2000 SP2 or SP3 Download and install the MS Java VM v. 3809 from here.
Windows 2000 SP4 Download and re-install v.3805, from here.
All other OS’s Download and install the MS Java VM v. 3809 from here.


2Upgrade to v. 3810:

OS Download/install steps
Windows 2000 SP2 or SP3 Download and install v. 3810 from here.
Windows 2000 SP4 Download and install V. 3810 from here.
All other OS’s Download and install v. 3810 from here.

3Turn Off Sun Java Plug-in:

Open Internet Explorer and select Tools, Internet Options, Advanced Tab, and scroll down until you see the Sun Java Plug-in checkbox. Uncheck it, click on the OK button, and restart IE.
